Texas Sheet Cake

For sour milk, add 1 1/2 tsp vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbs cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sour milk

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 3 tbs cocoa
  • 5 tbs milk
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. Cake: Stir together flour, sugar and salt, then set aside.
  2. Bring margarine, water, and cocoa to a boil then pour over flour mixture.
  3. Beat eggs, baking soda, vanilla, and sour milk together, then add to chocolate mixture and mix well.
  4. Bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes.

Frosting Directions

  1. Heat margarine, cocoa, and milk to dissolve, and remove from heat.
  2. Add sugar, nuts, and vanilla to above mixture.
  3. Poke holes into the cake with knife and pour frosting onto the cake while still hot.
