Chocolate Cherry Thumbprints

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup (1 stick & 3 tbs) butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • One 12 oz pkg (2 cups)Nestles TollHouse Semi Sweet Chocolate Morsels,divided
  • 2 cups Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned), uncooked
  • 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt (optional)
  • Two 10 oz jars (2 cups) of marashino cherries, drained and patted dry

Directions

  1. Beat sugar, margarine, eggs and vanilla until smooth
  2. Add 1 cup morsels, melted; mix well
  3. Stir in oats, flour, baking powder and salt
  4. Cover and chill dough 1 hour
  5. Heat oven to 350°F
  6. Shape dough into 1 inch balls
  7. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet
  8. Press deep centers with thumb
  9. Place one cherry into each center
  10. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set
  11. Remove cookies to wire rack and cool completely
  12. Drizzle cookies with the remaining 1 cup of morsels, melted
