Swedish Rye Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup to 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup dark karo syrup
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 6-7 cup flour
  • (+) 2 cups rye flour

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 2 cups warm water
  2. Add sugar to 2 cups hot water, butter, karo syrup, molasses and salt
  3. Mix, cool with 1 1/2 cup cold water, add yeast, and sifted rye flour
  4. Beat well and add white flour to harden up
  5. Let rise until it is double the size
  6. Shape into four loaves, and let rise again until double the size
  7. Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes
